What is the difference between gauze sponges and gauze pads?

Sponges are often referred to as a gauze pad-– a piece of gauze folded into a square; common sizes for sponges are 2” x 2” and 4” × 4”. Simply put, gauze pads come with one per pack, while gauze sponges come with two or more per pack.

What is the difference between woven and non woven gauze?

Woven gauze is usually made from cotton fibers woven into a loose weave. This allows fluids from the wound to be absorbed into the fibers, wicked away, or passed through into other absorbent materials.
Non-woven gauze is usually made from synthetic fibers (such as rayon, polyester, or a blend), which is pressed together to resemble a weave. This results in increased absorbency and better wicking.
For extra strength or greater protection, woven gauze works best, while open or loose weave is better for absorbency or drainage.
